Every year, we make lists of our goals for the new year, and my great challenge of changing habits and attitudes began in 2020. As the very title of this blog suggests, it's about changing habits and attitudes... but in relation to what? Ah, there are so many habits and attitudes that need to be transformed, and this change, of course, is always for the better. Habits related to diet, habits related to the environment and living beings, aiming for the well-being of the family nucleus, the universal family, and the planet. Changes in moral attitudes, being more loving, more patient, more grateful, more conscious of others, and more aware of the nature that surrounds us, connecting with the creator through prayer and meditation.
Of course, nothing changes overnight; these changes have to be gradual... step by step as much as possible. Change is individual, and each family member has their own time to make these changes, but for me, the most important thing is to start.
I really want to pass on to my daughters the best habits and attitudes towards others and the environment, to have this awareness that everything and everyone is interconnected by a web, and everything we do and think affects this web.
In 2020, I started adopting healthier eating habits. I hadn't eaten red meat for 20 years, and in 2020 I stopped eating poultry, leaving only seafood in my diet, with the larger goal of eventually trying to avoid all animal products. Today, I am fully aware, thanks to the study of Spiritist doctrine that unveils the mysteries of life, that everything, absolutely everything, is evolving, and that human beings on planet Earth are also evolving in both intelligence and morality... although intelligence advances more quickly than morality. Well, in a still promising future, humans will no longer need to feed on living beings close to us on the evolutionary scale. For now, there is this necessity for the majority of humanity, but we can see an increasing number of people following this evolution towards a more loving world.
Another point in my dietary change in 2020 was to reduce the consumption of industrialized products in our family, despite our existing concern and efforts to avoid bringing such products into our home. However, it is still very difficult to eliminate them completely. But, as I wrote at the beginning of this text, one step at a time, we do everything as much as possible. In 2020, I took a step to reduce these foods. I bought a machine to make alternative milks (almond, soy, oat, cashew, etc.). Today, I no longer use boxed plant-based milks; from now on, it’s only pure 100% plant-based milk, without all those ingredients that we don’t even know what they are.
Another step I took in 2020 was to stop drinking alcoholic beverages. I was never a heavy drinker... I don't miss it :)
In 2020, I also started testing healthy recipes (even though I’ve always been concerned about eating healthily). My husband even mentioned today that over these years together, he has changed his diet quite a bit because of my eating habits. I follow two incredible women on social media, Alana Rox and Bela Gil. Alana Rox is vegan and has such a sweet and special way of sharing her recipes and life experiences in the vegan world. I love her recipes because they are all very simple, light, and tasty. Bela Gil, with all her culinary knowledge, caught my attention with her way of cooking without waste, always taking advantage of foods that are usually thrown away. They are wonderful in healthy cooking, and they inspire me with delicious recipes. Besides their greatness in the kitchen, what caught my attention and inspired me a lot was their more loving approach to the environment and living beings, trying to minimize their impact on nature, following a more sustainable lifestyle. And this topic of sustainable living is so complex and at the same time so simple... but that will be for another day... Stay in peace, and may our Heavenly Father bless each one of us. Aloha
